I just wanted to let everyone know, that I have been working on and off on my other site, truenerdery.com.

Its not much to look at now, but its getting there. If you have a login, you can post your bio, latest updates, URL, and even upload your picture (im proud of that one as it was tricky for me to do)

So if you have time, check it out, and let me know of any suggestions for it!

Towers, and Junk

by on Aug.25, 2007, under Life, Work

Ive been trying to get email posting working, but its broken, or something.

Anyways, after doing some work today in Woodstock, I had to go to one of our CRLK wireless towers with an installer to help a fellow netop-er, and I took some pictures while I was out there.

Enjoy!

Update, for everything.

by on Jul.23, 2007, under General, Life

Well, ive been messing around with some stuff and figured id put an update out.

Ive just been working and sleeping, or so it seems. Really, in the background, ive been studying for a linux cert I plan on taking soon.  I just signed up to take the 1 week long course for the Red hat Certified Engineer cert. I chose for the “higher” cert because I felt that I would not have gotten any more out of the RHCT (technician) cert. So theres that.  Eventually, I also want to take my Linux+ and Network+ exams, just to get them out of the way.

A few months back, I posted that I got a new laptop.  Ive been extremely happy with it so far.  Here are the specs of it:

IBM/Lenovo T60 widescreen.

2.0gHz Intel Duo Core / 3gb ram (I upgraded from factory 1g) / 160G 5400rpm HDD (Upgraded from 100g 7200rpm)  / XP Pro

I  chose XP because I have a disgust for Vista, even though everything is going that way now. Upgraded to 3g for better support, and if I did ever go to vista, or even install it for testing, It wouldn’t be slow. For the hdd, it seemed that the 100g filled up too fast. I was only at 1g free 3 weeks ago.  After getting the right hard drive (IBM locks to certain drives), I am now at 160g, and loving it.

I have never used a better laptop in my life.

I also got up the courage to move over to ATT/Cingular, from Tmobile.  The last few months has been horrendous with the  8 hour late voicemail notifications, the 2 hour late text messages, and the lack of service, even when standing directly under one of their towers. Anyways, I bought a cingular “GoPhone” to test coverage, and was extremly happy with what I saw, and ended up moving to them.  I got myself a AT&T 8525 phone.  Despite the 1 bar of service in my room, I still can make calls, test messages, and even get on the internet with it.  Everywhere else, it seems even better.

Now that I have mobile support for this site, and some other things working, I want to try to update this site more often, even if its just random gibberish.

For now, so long and take care

New Pictures

by on Dec.30, 2006, under Life

OK, So its been a while. I guess I’ll do an update for anyone interested.

For starters, I am getting a promotion at work! YES! I will be moving from the Support Department to the Network Operations Department sometime in mid to end of January. No more ” ‘My internet is down, fix it!’ ‘uhh, sir, your radio shows powered off, can you make sure its plugged in?’ ‘This was working just fine an hour ago. Then after my wife was done cleaning, it stopped……oh its not plugged in. OK It works now bye’ ” calls. Oh yea, we DO get those kinds of calls, and many others!
I am VERY excited about this move as I get to learn more, and apply more of my skills I learned in school to every day functions at work.

Next up: Christmas. Yea it was OK, about as exciting as any Christmas would be. I was feeling a little depressed from just thinking back on the good ol’e days when I was young, getting presents was the thing, and we had SNOW on Christmas. Yea. back in the day. Its not too bad now. I get to see the smiles on my nephew and his cousins as they open up presents, and see Santa. I have some pictures if anyone wants to see. I will not post the link here as the site its on is hosted off my home DSL connection. I do have a few selected pictures in my gallery here if anyone is interested. Otherwise I can provide the link on a request-to-request basis.

Next: I am getting a new phone. After thinking thoroughly on what I need, can afford, and want, I came down to the RAZR v3t. I figured I did not need a Treo as it offered too much for what I was going to be doing with it. I figured since I am generally within 30 minutes or less away from a computer, I can just handle it. The v3t is sweet, is black, and stylish, and it plays MP3s! If anyone is interested, images of the RAZR v3t can be found here. The new phone should be arriving the second week of January and I am stoked about that too!

Thats about it. There is nothing else majoring going on in my life right now.
If anyone has any questions, you can always email me!

Certification time?

by on Sep.17, 2006, under Life

So yea, some people have been telling me to get some more certifications.

I dont know. I do and I dont. Im just too damn lazy, plus, if i were to even ATTEMPT my CCNA, yea that would take about 20 years of my life, as I would have a hard time remembering it all, and such

Well, its poll time… [poll link removed]

-I can probably do my Linux+ with my eyes closed and hands cut off… This test basically proves my knowledge in basicl Linux systems.

-I can probably do my Network+ with some studying. The network+ proces my knowledge in basic networking stuff. A mini CCNA if you will.

-And I have some practice exams for the MCSE stuff, and that would take a little more time learning, and more tests (I think like 6 tests or so). The MCSE would prove that I know myh way around microsoft server and desktop systems. (who doesnt?)

-I have no idea about the Security+ test, but im sure it wouldnt be too hard. this would prove my knowledge in the basics of security of computers and networks

-And the CCNA….HAHAHA I hardly remember that shit, but I have the latest books on it. the downside: I have a hard time remembering what I read, let alone learning from what I read. the CCNA is a major network test and shows that I know the fundamentals of a computer network and how it all works. This would probably be the biggest test, but also the hardest test there is.

I will probably take the first two top rated tests and possibly the third. So please everyone vote!

thanks

So for those of you from gabcast listening in and wanted to visit….WELCOME!

I dont know if i will be using it often, or again at all, its just fun to have.
